As a mindfulness-based relational psychotherapist,  I support my clients to meet life's challenges and appreciate its gifts.   As a client in therapy, you are supported to turn towards what hurts in order to reconnect with a sense of wellness and freedom within yourself.   I offer a dynamic therapeutic relationship where we dive into this process together.

The clients I work with come to therapy for a variety of reasons.  They  may be struggling with depression, anxiety or low self-esteem.  Many are learning about their neurodivergence and discovering how they can best support themselves and to grow.  Others may feel caught in repetitive, unhelpful patterns or face difficulties in important relationships.  Some are navigating grief after a significant loss,  . Many are adapting to major life transitions, exploring identity questions and neurodivergence, or processing trauma and traumatic events.

I work with individuals from a wide variety of lives and backgrounds.  I have particular experience working with ADHD clients and individuals from the LGBTQA+ community.

My Approach

In mindfulness-based relational psychotherapy, clients experience a real, authentic and ultimately transformative therapeutic relationship where therapist and client journey together.

- Relational and Psychodynamic -

In relational psychotherapy, rather than sit outside as an expert observer, the therapist is in the ring with you.

In therapy we might delve deeper into what is happening for you in your current relationships - what feels good and what does not.   We may look at how the past is coming into the present.   We may talk about your journey through life, the events, moments and decisions that shaped you.  We may explore your childhood, because  our patterns of connecting to others are learnt early on.  Through bringing awareness to these aspects of ourselves, there is the opportunity to develop new ways of relating to yourself and others.

- Mindfulness-based -

This relational approach is informed by contemplative neuroscience,  buddhist wisdom and the role of the nervous system in trauma and healing.

This means that you will be supported in our sessions to practice mindfulness-in-action:  bringing present moment awareness to your experience.  This may be as simple as pausing as we talk about something to notice and name what emotion or physical sensation is here in this moment for you and for us both.    So while we will explore important past experiences and your fears and hopes for the future, we will also become curious about our thoughts and feelings in the present moment.   By becoming more aware of our reactions to our experience - the ways we push away or hold on - and the patterns that take shape, we gain greater choice in how we live and in the sort of relationships we have.

About Me

PSY TODAY 7TH EDIT_edited_edited.jpg

Emily Cole MSc, PGDip, MBPsS, UKCP Reg

I am a UKCP accredited psychotherapist, having studied with the Karuna Institute and qualified in Mindfulness-Based Core Process Psychotherapy.  I am also registered with the Association of Core Process Psychotherapists.  As a member of the UKCP and ACPP, I adhere to their code of ethics and receive clinical supervision.

I have a British Psychological Society recognised MSc in Psychology and experience in adult psychological services in the NHS as an assistant psychologist.  I have also worked as a therapeutic practitioner with neurodivergent young people and their families for almost ten years.  In my therapeutic work I draw from a breadth of experience and take a holistic and individualised approach.

As a therapist, I value the simple act of sitting down with my clients each week, connecting with them however they are in the moment. Over time, I get to witness my clients develop a truer, kinder relationship with themselves. It's incredibly rewarding to journey with someone as this inner change is reflected out into their life and relationships.

I offer sessions in London in Kensal Rise,  Bounds Green and online.
