Get in touch for a  free exploratory call to help us determine how we can work together and to answer any questions you might have.  I also offer a stand-alone initial session which is 50 minutes, in person or online. Initial sessions are supportive and clarifying and a great first step on your therapy journey.

My Approach

I offer contemplative and relational psychotherapy.   In relational psychotherapy, clients experience a real, authentic and ultimately transformative therapeutic relationship where therapist and client journey together.   In relational psychotherapy, rather than sit outside as an expert observer, the therapist is in the ring with you - feeling and experiencing alongside you.

In the work we might explore and understand what is happening for you in your current relationships - what feels good and what does not.   We might look at how the past is coming into the present.  We may talk about your journey through life, the events, moments and decisions that shaped you.  We may explore your childhood, because   our patterns of connecting to others are learnt early on.  Some patterns are adaptive: they may have been useful or even life saving growing up, but when we are not aware when they  are continuing on into our adult lives, this can lead to painful or unfulfilling relationships.  Through bringing awareness to this, there is the opportunity to develop new ways of relating to yourself and others

My approach is contemplative - it is informed by contemplative neuroscience,  buddhist wisdom and the role of the nervous system in trauma and healing.

This means that you will be supported in our sessions to practice mindfulness-in-action:  bringing present moment awareness to your experience.  This may be as simple as pausing as we talk about something to notice and name what emotion or physical sensation is here in this moment for you and for us both.    So while we will explore important past experiences and your fears and hopes for the future, we will also become curious about our thoughts and feelings in the present moment.   By becoming more aware of your reactions to your experience - the way you push away or hold on - and the patterns that shape your life and relationships, you will gain greater choice in how you live and in the sort of relationships you have.
